Autism Spectrum Disorder is a lifelong disability which effects development. It includes Autism Aspergers Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorder. It effects the way a person communicates with and relates to the world, people and society.

All people within the spectrum face shared challenges such as understanding and processing language, but overall characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder very, sometimes quite significantly, from person to person.

Autism is a hidden disability most often, so usually people who are autistic are able bodied but struggle with the following issues;

1) changes to routines

2) understanding jokes, sarcasm and irony

3) sitting around on their own

4) often they have either poor or high organisational skills

5) poor motor skills

People on the Autistic Spectrum may have an over or under sensitivity to sounds, touch, taste, smells, light, colour, and texture. People with Autism Spectrum Disorder are often good at remembering certain strings of information, like numbers or places and also tend to notice small details that others do not. They also have a tendency to either phrase things in an awkward manner, or to be overly honest and blunt to an extent some people may find rude.
